WP Plug-in database go here
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED:
- Creative Commons Configurator allows users to choose a CC license for their work. Licensed under GNU General Public License. I think that puts some restrictions on the ability to redestribute it the same way a CC ShareAlike license does. (Cheryl)
- Subscribe to Comments: Adds a check-box so that users leaving comments can subscribe via email to followup comments. (Cheryl)
- WordPress Database Backup: The "not having to understand MySQL" way to back up your database. (Cheryl)
- Custom Query String: Change the number of posts displayed when viewing different archive pages. For example, tell WordPress to show only one post on home page, and 5 on archive pages or category pages (cheryl)
- Ultimate Category Excluder: Exclude any category you want from the front page (cheryl)
RECOMMENDED:
- Podcast Release: It's a click-through release accptance form that lets you customize what it says and emails you and your interviewee a copy. Good for vloggers who want release forms from people they interview. (Cheryl)
- Brian's Threaded Comments: a threaded comments plugin for WordPress 1.5 - K2 has built-in support for this plugin. Jay says "a nicer way to extend the conversation. would have been good for our recent "killing a chicken" video since we got a lot of comments, but the conversations were confusing since people had different issues."
- Get Recent Comments: "shows excerpts of the latest comments and/or trackbacks in your sidebar. You have comprehensive control about their appearance. This ranges from the number of comments, the length of the excerpts up to the html layout." - Note: the existing setup already allows you to link to recent comments, but does not expose what was actually said. This plugin will show what was said, and you can control how much. Also note: plugin says it is compatible up to WP 2.1, but I installed it on v2.2 and it works fine. (Cheryl)
- WP View Subscriber Info: Works with Subscribe to Comments, administration via Admin menu, displays all subscribed individuals and the posts they are subscribed to, Optional insertion of subscriber statistics into the Dashboard. Mainly an info-gathering tool for site owner.
- WordPress post switcher: This plugin will create a content switcher box on the homepage of your site where users can flip through recent posts by clicking on the thumbnails. uses jQuery + the idTabs plugin to make this happen.
- Extra Comments Fields: Allows you to add additional fields for users to complete when submitting a comment. The extra data will be saved in the wp database and is retrieved when showing a post’s list of comments. This plugin requires a basic knowledge of HTML to modify your comment form.
- flickrRSS: Lets you display user, public and group photostreams on your vlog. (Cheryl)
- Page Link Manager: lets you select which pages go in your site navigation menu (without making the ones you want left out into child pages) (Cheryl)
- Amazon S3 uploader: After reading about how other bloggers are using Amazon’s Simple Storage Service to help digg proof and scale their web sites, I decided to try and come up with something to help facilitate this. What I came up with is the Amazon S3 plugin for WordPress, which basically uses Amazon’s S3 content delivery network to host all the files you upload via WordPress. Once you’ve installed this plugin, you don’t need to worry about it anymore, since it runs in the background. Files you upload are automatically sent over to Amazon S3. (Jay)
- "Share This" plugin, service & Laughing Squid post for sharing the entire Wordpress post:
LETS RESEARCH MORE ABOUT THESE AND SEE WHAT WE THINK:
- Riffly Webcam Comments
- FeedSmith: makes WordPress direct its feed links to your Feedburner feed (instead of it's own RSS). Not sure if/how this works with multiple feeds for different video formats. (Cheryl)
- Those Were The Days: a "featured posts" plugin that provides configurable links to posts that you want to highlight on your blog. The output from the plugin can be displayed as a widget in the sidebar of your Wordpress 2.2+ blog
- Link Summarizer: all links referred in a post get summarized at the end of the post - I wonder if this could be used to summarize the links referred to in your video... if I find out I will post the answer (Cheryl)
- No Self Ping: Lets you tell your site not to send pingbacks to itself, which some people may feel clutters up their comments (Cheryl)
- http://pavatar.com/ and http://gravatar.com : a decentralized way for my videoblog to see an avatar for commenters.
- http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-automatic-upgrade/ : Automatic upgrade of your wordpress installation
with that said, since i am a long time user of SimplePie (http://simplepie.org/) and as it relates to my suggestion and the 'recent videos' plugin for siab..... i'd like to get some thoughts from others here on this reverse approach to displaying recent videos... by using RSS instead.
A simplePie plugin for wordpress already exists:

A lot of creative ideas can come out of using SimplePie and SIAB.
WE MIGHT USE THESE ON SITES WE BUILD, BUT LET'S LEAVE THEM OUT OF SIAB
